NHS Entitlement

Visioncare at Home want all of our patients to enjoy maximum benefit from all of the eye care services we provide. Entitlement to NHS provision can make a significant difference so it is well worth taking a little time to study these few short points.

Scottish Entitlement

UK residents in Scotland are entitled to free eye examinations: this includes home visits if you are unable to attend a high street optician’s practice on your own.

  • For those over the age of 60 or suffering from diabetes or glaucoma you are entitled to one eye test at least once every 12 months, otherwise it will be once every 24 months.

You may also be entitled to FREE spectacles if any of the following apply:

  • If you receive Income Support
  • If you and/or your partner receives Pension Credit Guarantee
  • If you and/or your partner has a valid HC2 or HC3 certificate

You may be eligible to have your sight test at a day center you attend if you would have difficulty in obtaining a sight test from an optician’s practice due to a physical or mental illness or disability or because of difficulties in communicating your health needs unaided.

You may also be eligible for free glasses, if you:

  • Are under 16 years old, or under 19 and in full time education
  • Are eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher
  • Receive Income Support or Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (not contribution based)
  • Receive Pension Credit Guarantee
  • Receive Income-based Employment and Support Allowance
  • Are entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate
  • Are named on a valid NHS certificate for full help with health costs (HC2)
